Privacy Policy

Groovi is an app for ranking the DJ sets you've seen and sharing them with friends. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. Groovi is operated by Matthew Sani ("Groovi", "we", "us").
What we collect
We only collect what Groovi needs to work:
- Your account: your phone number (you sign in with it), display name, @handle, and, if you add them, a bio, profile photo, school and graduation year, and home city.
- What you post: the sets you rank (artist, venue, date, tier and score), verdicts, favorite songs, photos and videos, your Want to See list, comments, likes, and the people you tag as "went with".
- Private notes: notes and favorite songs you save on an artist page. These are only visible to you.
- Your activity with others: who you follow and who follows you, follow requests, blocks, mutes, reports you send, recent searches, and invite codes you create or use.
- Contacts (only if you use Find friends): see "Your contacts" below.
- Email: if you add one in Settings, it is stored only on your phone and is not sent to us.
Your contacts
If you choose to use Find friends, Groovi reads the phone numbers in your contacts on your phone, converts each one to a one-way scrambled code (a SHA-256 hash), and sends only those codes to check which belong to Groovi members who allow being found by phone number. We don't store your contacts or the codes, and contact names never leave your phone. You can turn off "Let people with your number find you" in Settings โ Privacy.
What we don't collect
- We don't track your location.
- We don't show ads, and we don't use advertising or tracking tools.
- We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
- We don't collect payment information.
Who can see what
- Accounts are public by default: other members can see your profile, ranked sets, verdicts, favorite songs, photos and videos, lists, and comments.
- If you make your account private, other members can still see your name, @handle, photo, school and follower counts, but only followers you approve can see your sets and lists.
- Your artist notes are always private.
- Leaderboards show members' counts (sets ranked, verdicts, uploads), and school leaderboards show totals per school.
- People you block can't see your profile or content, and you won't see theirs.
How we use it
- To run Groovi: sign you in, save and rank your sets, show your feed, profiles, lists, leaderboards and notifications.
- To keep Groovi safe: review reports, enforce our Terms, prevent spam and abuse (for example, limits on how often codes and comments can be sent).
- To fix problems and improve the app.
Service providers
We use a small number of companies to run Groovi. They only get what they need to provide their service:
- Supabase: hosts our database, file storage and sign-in system. Your data is stored in the United States.
- Twilio: sends the verification codes you sign in with, so it receives your phone number.
- Apple: distributes the app through the App Store.
On your phone
To make Groovi fast and usable with a weak connection, the app keeps copies of what you've seen (your sets, your feed, profiles you've visited) on your phone. Signing out deletes these copies.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in Settings โ Your account โ Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, sets, photos and videos, comments, likes, follows and other data from our systems. Copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to 7 days before they are overwritten. You can also deactivate your account instead, which hides it until you sign back in.
You can view and edit most of your information directly in the app. To ask for a copy of your data or for anything you can't do in the app, contact us.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access rules on our database make sure members can only read what they're allowed to see, and private photos and videos are only available through links that expire. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Groovi isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including California), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, and to not be discriminated against for using these rights. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising. To use any of these rights, contact us.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and for important changes we'll let you know in the app.
